Help spread the news with an RSVP (and invite others) on our Facebook event page:

The 15th Annual Earth Day Celebration at Stinson Beach combines care for the environment with arts activities for all ages. Participants can help with beach cleanup and create collaborative art with natural materials found at the beach.

This inclusive event inspires and energizes people to care for and protect the earth not only on Earth Day, but throughout the year.

Bags and gloves are provided, but you are invited to bring buckets and gloves in an effort to reduce our environmental footprint.

Join Andres and Kelsi from Elemental Team Arts in collaborative activities making ephemeral art with natural materials from the beach. We’ll be leading several short sessions in different ways to create at the beach. You are invited to bring tools that could help with art-making as well as bring small percussion instruments such as shakers, bells, or palm-sized drums to join in the musical creation.

Bring a picnic lunch. The gathering takes place rain, shine, or fog. Come anytime 10:30am - 3:30pm. All ages welcome. Sorry, no dogs allowed at this end of the beach. Consider carpooling and public transportation. The event is at the south end of Stinson Beach (to the left as you face the ocean).

There is also a beach clean up component to our gathering being organized by the National Park Service. To be part of one of their several sessions, register here.

This Earth Day event is produced in partnership by Andres Amador and Kelsi Anderson with support from Zach Pine and in collaboration with Surfrider Foundation (Marin County Chapter) and Marin County Parks.

Thanks to Mill Valley Refuse Service for donating an accessible portable toilet unit rental, part of our accessibility plan.

We also give a huge thank you to Zach Pine for founding this event that is now in its 16th iteration. We appreciate his vision and community spirit for putting so much work into bringing people together in creativity and earth consciousness.

Details for the Event

Hello Friend!

We're so glad you'll be joining us for the Earth Day Art and Beach Cleaning event.

First off, we encourage you to participate in the beach clean up portion of the event. I was at the beach this morning and I was dismayed by the amount of trash that came in on the storm tide. I imagine that will occur for tomorrow as well. Just imagine trash washing ashore every day...And not to mention the trash left by less mindful visitors...Anyhow, follow this link to take part in one of the two clean up sessions happening. Awersome!

Alright! On to details...

Time
we'll be setting up at 10:30. Activities will get underway at 11. We'll be wrapping and cleaning up starting at 3.

Location and Directions
We'll be doing our play on the far southern end of Stinson Beach. So get yerself to the Stinson Beach parking lot, park as far south as you can (the spillover lot may be open, in which case, aim for that). Walk out to the beach and head to the left. We'll be about a 5 minute walk from the main lifegaurd tower or just at southern end of the spillover lot. Look for the star spangled beach blankets.
Our approximate location on the beach.
Here is one route from SF and Marin
And here is another
And for those who wish to honor The Earth by not driving, there is public transport right to the town and only a minute walk to the parking lot.

Activities
From ~11-12:30 we'll be leading a collaborative rake art session and from ~12:30 onwards we'll be guiding smaller group sessions in sand sculpting, sand pouring, and natural materials arrangement. We'll be cycling through activities frequently so that a trickle of participants can be accopmodated. When you arrive set yourself up comfortably and then saunter over and we'll start new sessions when there is a large enough group.

Equipment
We'll have a set of tools- rakes, trowels, scoops, etc. We enourage you to bring your own tools for creative expression (you never know what will make a good patterning or texturizing or sculpting tool- experimentation is key!).

Be Prepared
Weather can be fickle. The forecast is for the low 60's. Sun might be patchy. So bring your layers bundle up or cool of as needed. Bring water and snacks. We invite you to bring musical instruments if that is your thing. And bring your festival costumery- why not, its for the earth, after all!

Bathroom:
We've been donated a porta potty for our use at the southern end of the spillover lot- that's handy.

Awesome! We look forward to creating with you tomorrow!

~Andres & Kelsi

We currently are offering 2 different workshops:

1) The Beach Art Experience: Explore making large-scale, collaborative art using rakes in the sand and drawing inspiration from nature. Upon completion, we can watch as the ocean tide rises and washes away the art.

2) The Earth Altar Experience: Create temporary nature-based mandalas and other arrangements . In this workshop we attune ourselves to noticing the many available materials from the environment around us and then draw inspiration from the unfolding arrangement. We will work individually and as a group. This event has a more introspective quality than the beach workshop but still is about creativity, collaboration and delight.
